Wine and chocolate are very similar; they share many tasting notes and characteristics and both are considered aphrodisiacs due to their high content of flavanols (antioxidants).

However, the fact that they share so many rich, bold tastes, can sometimes make pairing wine and chocolate a little difficult.

So, to help you discover some of the amazing tastes and sensations  chocolate and wine can unlock in each other, here, some basic rules for wine and chocolate pairing:

1.            The wine should be as sweet as the chocolate.

Opt for tastes that complement each other, rather than overpowering one another.

2.            Pair them by colour.

Usually, darker chocolate pairs well with darker wine – and lighter chocolate pairs well with a lighter wine.

3.            Quality wine deserves a quality chocolate. 

To truly bring out the best in a great wine, pair it with a quality chocolate bar. You’ll be amazed by the results.

4.            Follow Your Nose.

When choosing your pairing, consider the aroma as well as the taste.

With so many options on the shelves at wine stores, and so many chocolates at the supermarket; it can be a little daunting to get started.
