The Newcastle Food & Wine Expo
Okay foodies, get out your diaries and book yourself as 'busy' for the 25th and the 27th of August because the Food and Wine Expo is coming to Newcastle!
There are shows all over the country, from Brisbane to Perth, but the crew from The Collective Wine Company will be at the Newcastle leg of the tour to showcase some of our Flamingo Moscato and Millon Estate wines (including our award winning Impressionist Riesling).
There will be over eighty exhibitors all sampling their scrumptious produce at the expo, which can give you a case of ‘option overload,’ so here are some of our top picks to help you get the most out of your day:
You know what? Even if you can’t make it to the Newcastle Food and Wine Expo, you should put The Smelly Cheese Shop on your to do list anyway.
Nestled in a gorgeous part of The Hunter Valley, The Smelly Cheese Shop has become a mecca for cheese lovers all the way up and down the Eastern Seaboard. With so many cheeses to choose from, it can be hard to pick a wine to match, but any Australian Red goes wonderfully with cheese.
From chewy, gooey, raw Victorian Honeycomb, to the soothing and healing honey from Western Australia; The 3 Bees Raw Honey stock honey from just about every corner of Australia.
They also craft a delicious chocolate honeycomb, with big, bold honey flavours that sit perfectly against the chocolate. Honey can highlight the harder notes of wine, so stick with a sweeter pairing, such as a Riesling.
With a focus on local and natural produce, with no artificial flavours or preservatives, Nick’s have become renowned by Australian jerky fans and health food lovers alike.
Frequently reviewed online as one of the best jerkies in the country, Riverina Jerky also sell their marinades, so you can give jerky-making a try when you get back home.
However, for those of us without a smoke house, it’s much easier just to sample some that have already been made for you.
If you’ve never spent a lot of time in Newcastle, then chances are; you’ve never heard of Nan’s Dumpling Time. To the locals, however, Nan’s is famous for their fresh dumplings and delicious noodle soups.
So if all that walking around Newcastle Entertainment Centre builds up a hunger, then make sure you pop in to see why Nan’s Dumpling Time is one of Newcastle’s favourite restaurants.
Some of us have a sweet tooth, and some of us have several sweet teeth. And when it comes to satisfying every single one of your sweet teeth, the team at Byron Bay Chocolates have you covered.
Their chocolate coated macadamias are their speciality, but we suggest sampling their chocolate covered blue berries, which are the perfect match for some berry-heavy Australian Red Wines.
