Long Weekend Escapes

With the June long weekend on the horizon, and the mercury definitely dropping, we’re packing up some of our favourite Australian wines and hitting the road! If you haven’t planned your holiday yet, don’t worry – kick-start your winter escape with some of our favourite retreats in New South Wales.

Wild Edge Retreat, Wollombi

Just up the road from the historic, Wollombi Tavern, and only a short drive from The Hunter Valley, lies Wild Edge Retreat. It can be a little hard to find, and that’s why we love it – as there’s no traffic, no crowds and no noise. So after a hard day of exploring the local wineries, you can lounge back in your private spa, on the edge of the wilderness, and sip on your favourite wine as you drift away.

Seclusions, The Blue Mountains

Located on twenty acres of private countryside, with stunning views of Mount Walker, lies Seclusions; one of New South Wales’ truly hidden gems. Seclusions is a series of private spa cabins at the Western base of the Blue Mountains. It’s a perfect place to set off an explore Mudgee’s incredible wineries, or just wind down with a glass of Australian Moscato in your private hot tub.

Eagleview Escape, Lake Lyell

One look at their Instagram account, and we fell in love with Eagleview Escape. They’re located just a short drive from Lithgow, past the Blue Mountains and at the foothills of the Marangaroo National Park. However, it feels as though you’re in the absolute middle of nowhere. The only noise you’ll have to put up with comes from the local Bellbirds, and the hardest decision you have to make all weekend, is what wine will you pack?

Evanslea, Mudgee

Not only is Evanslea a short drive from some of our favourite, Australian wineries, but it’s also a pet-friendly resort. So whether your partner in crime has two legs, or four – the cottages at Evanslea are a perfect place to relax. As it can be hard to visit cellar doors with your four-legged friend, ask the staff if they could have some local Mudgee wines and produce waiting for you in your cottage.

The Tannery, Mudgee

This adorable cottage looks like something straight out of a Charles Dickens novel. Located right in the middle of town, The Tannery is a short walk from some of our favourite restaurants and cafes in Mudgee. However, the open fire in the cosy living room is the perfect place to relax. So why not order in a wood-fired pizza (we suggest La Pampa), and pair it with a soft, Mudgee Sangiovese?
